IN-MOULD DECORATION (IMD)

IMD is a production process in which decorated parts are obtained by inserting decorated films into the mould during injection moulding. The result is a 3D part whit symbols that can be backlighted, and provided with an abrasion-proof and antiscratch surface.

Advantages of  I.M.D

-Abrasion-proof and antiscratch surface

-Backlighting (day/night design)

-A wide range of graphic solutions (colours, intensity, ultra-thin patterns) and surface structures (gloss/matt)

-Easy to assemble: many operations following injection moulding could be eliminated as different components can be integrated in a single part

-Does not require adhesive (usually expensive) thus preventing the film from detaching

-Allows to standardize the process: to change decoration pattern you just change the film, without modifying the moulding. This makes the whole process more flexible.
